Alaafin of Oyo Stool Nigerian anti-graft agency, Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the five Kingmakers who will determine the next Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom over bribery allegations.
Our source claimed that EFCC's invitation to the Oyo Kingmakers followed a bribery allegation leveled against them by one of the aspirants lobbying to occupy the vacant Alaafin's throne.
The Kingmakers were said to have been bribed with millions of naira by one of the aspirants for the still of Alaafin, the source stated. Recall that there has been more agitation from residents of Oyo Kingdom, in recent times, calling on the government to hasten the process of electing a new Alaafin with recommendations that the selection Process should be left void of unnecessary influence and political power play.
It was however stated that only two of the five Oyo Kingmakers honored the EFCC's invitation while three others boycotted it.
"Two of the Oyo Kingmakers, Oloye Agbaakin and Oloye Samu honored the EFCC invitation while Oloye Basorun, Oloye Laguna, and Oloye Akinniku boycotted the EFCC's invitation."
Following the transition of the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the stool of Alaafin became vacant, and about 119 princes showed interest in the throne. The Oyomesi Traditional Kingmakers of the ancient town screened the applicants down to 10 from whom one person is expected to be announced as the new Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom.
