Aliko Dangote Anti-graft agency in Nigeria, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) took over the headquarters of Dangote Groups, today, in Lagos, a few hours after the Chief Executive Officer of the conglomerate was dethroned by his South African counterpart as the richest person in Africa.
The operatives of the EFCC struck the headquarters of the Dangote Group located at No 1 Alfred Rewane Road, Ikoyi, Lagos 106104, Lagos State and they carried out a search operation on the headquarters of the conglomerate firm.
Although EFCC operatives refused to state the reason for besieging the headquarters Office of Dangote Group, a source who preferred anonymity conferred to the Punch that the search operation on the Dangote Group headquarters is likely related to the agency's probe of the illegal activities on the country's Foreign Exchange Allocation during the tenure of the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Reacting to the development, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale said, “I can confirm that our men are there, but I can’t comment on the reason for their presence there.
Recall that EFCC has vowed to bring to book every firm or individual involved in the sabotage of the country's Exchange Rate Scandal that occurred during the tenure of CBN Governor Emefiele, even though the Exchange Rate racketeering was said to be unknown to former President Muhammadu Buhari, and he did not give approval for the illegal allocations.
