Nigerian goalkeeper who also doubles as the shot-stopper for the South African club side team Chippa United, Stanley Nwabali, has been given a heroic welcome to his club side in South Africa.
Nwabali's brilliant display at the just concluded Cote D'Ivoire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, has won both respect and hostilities from football fans along the countryside.
Nwabali kept four clean sheets out of the seven matches played by Nigeria, the performance that placed him behind only the South African goalkeeper, Williams in the competition.
The fate of Nwabali to return to his Chippa United clubside became uncertain at a stage, moment after Nwabali's Super Eagles of Nigeria dashed the hope of the South African Bafana Bafana football team to make it to the final stage of the AFCON competition in the semi-final match.

In the semi-final match, Nigeria played a 1-1 draw with South Africa, resulting in penalty shootouts where Nwabali personally saved some penalty kicks by the South African player to send Nigeria to the final match of the competition.
Immediately after the match, some South African fans felt beyond football and decided to threaten Nwabali never to attempt coming back to South Africa to join his club after defeating the country in the AFCON.

The technical crew of the club, fans, and co-players were happy, rejoicing with, Nwabali, the Nigerian silver medal winner at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Ivory Coast.
