Edison Ehie A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital, has given a fresh order stopping the officers of the Nigeria Police Force from arresting a former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie who is currently the Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Edison Ehie has recently been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force following allegations that he was involved in the process of burning down the state Assembly Complex at the height of the political imbroglio between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
Ehie had taken the Inspector General of Police and Rivers State Commissioner for Police to court for declaring him wanted over the burning of Rivers State Assembly Complex at the height of the political imbroglio between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
During the political crisis, Ehie led the four-member Rivers State House of Assembly to support Governor Fubara against his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
To avert the impeachment of Governor Fubara, Ehie was accused of accomplishing some hoodlums who invaded the State Assembly Complex and burned it down leading Governor's decision to lock up the State House of Assembly for renovation while Ehie-led four-man Assembly members held sessions in the government the house.
Passing judgment on the petition filed by Ehie, the presiding judge, Justice Sika Aprioku ruled that the pursuit of a case to arrest Rt, Hon Ehie was purely a politically motivated vendetta.
Justice Aprioku entertained the various presentations and arguments that were made by the Counsel for the applicant, D.O. Okoro, SAN, and C.M. Dickson, Esq. who represented the respondents.
The judge later ruled and dismissed the preliminary objection that was raised on the issue of jurisdiction because it lacked merit.
Justice Aprioku who said the respondents were restrained from arresting the applicant because the charges were only aimed at settling political scores, awarded the cost of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) in favor of the applicant against the respondents.
