Chaos as Emir of Ilorin Vacate Palace After Residents Bombard Him Asking for Food Amidst Economic Hardships
Emir Palace, Ilorin
On Saturday, February 17th, the atmospheric condition around the Emir Palace, Ilorin allegedly became turbulent as residents bombarded the palace, protesting the economic hardships biting the country.

Protesting residents were allegedly heard asking the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, to provide them with food. A viral video suggested this.

“We are Hungry, We need food,” Ilorin residents in their numbers chanted after storming the Emir’s palace in protest.

According to PIEDMedia, the Emir was spotted leaving the palace in a hurry through the backdoor as the protest turned wild.

The publication noted that the protesters also called out the federal government during the demonstration saying, “The state is hungry.”

The hardship situation in the country, however, has continued to worsen unabated.

Over the past few days, there has been an increment in the prices of food items and other essential commodities in Nigerian markets. This makes life extremely difficult for people to survive amidst job shortages and provoking cases of insecurity.

The recent food scarcity in Nigeria has been widely blamed on the decision made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove oil subsidies and float the naira. However, the Round Table understands that the removal of oil subsidy and naira floatation are two necessities for Nigeria, as a country, to thrive, the recent economic hardships are consequences of the country's failure to have a long-term economic policy, and absolutely fight economic saboteurs who would stop at nothing to cripple the government's economic plans, irrespective of how severe the residents would feel it.
