Siminalayi Fubara and Beatrice Itubo Labour Party has dropped its petition against the embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The development is not unconnected to the political imbroglio between the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
The political crisis between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike has caused many political realignments in Rivers State with some of the Commissioners serving in the Rivers State Executive Council resigning their appointments in a show of solidarity for the former Governor of the State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Recall that recently, the Labour Party Governorship candidate in Rivers State, Beatrice Itubo, had a closed-door meeting with Governor Fubara after about 26 lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly announced their defections from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
Itubo refused to give details of their meeting but insisted she would reveal the details after their plan had been completely implemented.
Although many citizens suggested possible collaboration between the Labour Party and Governor Fubara, it is still unclear if Governor Fubara will dump his party, PDP, for the Labor Party or if the Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party will empty itself into the PDP to form solidarity with the embattled Governor Fubara.
