Bayo Onanuga, Joe Abah Differ as Ethnicity Decides Lagos Guber Poll

Newspaper Executive, Bayo Onanuga and Nigerian Author Joe Abah have shown gross differences in an opinion that arose from the governorship contest in Lagos State.

Ethnicity has been the major factor that decides the voting patterns of the electorates during the yet-to-be-concluded governorship election in Lagos State, and this has attracted reactions from various citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In reaction to the worrying factors shaping the Lagos State governorship contest, Mr. Bayo Onanuga was furious about an attempt by the Igbo people to become the Governor of the State.

He was worried that Lagos State is not different from Imo or Anambra State which are core Igbo states. He said if the Igbos could not allow people of other tribes to vie for political positions in their states, it would be absurd to claim Rights to contest the governorship seat of Lagos under the guise that Lagos is "No Man's Land.

He brutally encouraged the Yoruba owners of Lagos to ensure 2023 elections is the last time Igbo people will attempt to drag the political leadership of Lagos with them.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga said "Let 2023 be the last time of Igbo interference in Lagos politics. Let there be no repeat in 2027. Lagos is like Anambra, Imo, or any Nigerian state. It is not No Man’s Land, not Federal Capital Territory. It is Yoruba land. Mind your business.

Not satisfied with Mr. Onanuga's position on Lagos politics, Dr. Joe Abah disclosed sadness over the remark, with a position that Mr. Onanuga's position is disgraceful.

He said Mr. Onanuga, in his old age, ought to be peaceful, uniting the country work against anything that can cause tension among the people.

He said "This is disgraceful and dangerous ethnic profiling. A 65-year-old man should be calling for peace, unity, and a reduction of tension, not fanning the embers of discord. I have reported this tweet.

However, the position of Dr. Joe Abah was questioned by Peter Olumide who claimed that the position of Dr. Joe Abah is hypocritical. He belittled Dr. Joe Abah's attitude of looking away from condemning the Igbos when they were claiming that Lagos is a "No man's land". He insisted that such nefarious claims give birth to Mr. Onanuga's position.

Olumide said "Where were you when Obi came into Lagos and campaigned in Igbo-dominated markets only like Alaba Int'l market, Ladipo, etc? He exploited the ethnic and religious divide asking the church to take back Nigeria. Not only in Lagos, but other states may also become hostile seeing Lagos.

"Show me where you caution Obi campaigning in Ibo-dominated markets Lagos exploiting ethnic divides in Alaba, Ladipo, etc. Show where you caution those organizing to depose Yoruba Oba's in Lagos because Obi won Lagos. I condemn him but you won't blame him either.
