Peter Obi (L), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (C) and Atiku Abubakar (R) There are indications that the 2023 presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is moving to destroy the party and fly a new political party in cooperation with other political bigwigs who lost the 2023 presidential poll to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The purpose of the new party is to put an end to the reins of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country.
The move which will put an end to the existence of PDP, a party that has been in existence since 1998, is said to be a step whose final decisions depend on two critical conditions.
The first step for the formation of the merger party was taken by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar when he met with the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, recently.
The two political bigwigs were said to have reached a term, pending the decision of the two conditions that will decide the future of their discussion.
THISDAY reported that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has also met with the navigators of the movement that back his presidential ambition, the "Obidients" to iron out the possibility of the merger. There was also a report that some leaders of PDP but not Alhaji Atiku Abubakar were present at the meeting between Mr. Peter Obi and the Obidient navigators.
Above all, the future of the merger party depends on whether the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal will call for the conduct of a fresh election or rerun. If this occurs, the political leaders may need to talk further and decide on the way forth.
Secondly, the political leaders of PDP, NNPP, and Labour Party are considering a merger to form a new political party ahead of the 2027 general election, all intending to stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in case the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal upholds his 2023 election results.
Noticeably, the political leaders have not decided the political party, and the presidential candidate that will be endorsed by the three parties to challenge President Bola Tinubu, in case the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal orders a fresh presidential election or rerun. Also, the political leaders are of thoughts that the merger will know how to handle who will fly the presidential flag of the new merger party ahead of the 2027 General elections, in case the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal upholds Tinubu's victory at the 2023 general elections.
If this negotiation is successful PDP, NNPP, and Labour Party may be discarded or heavily depopulated with APC having a severe political contest ahead.
