Atiku Meet Peter Obi Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his erstwhile running mate who was also the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi met yesterday. They met at the funeral ceremony of the father of Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri.
The Yenagoa meeting of Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi was not politically connected, although it was the first meeting of the two political figures since the PDP failed to specifically microzoned the Presidential ticket of the party to the Southeast, a region where Mr. Peter Obi hails from.
Mr. Peter Obi defected from the PDP to the Labour Party to vie for the presidential seat of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in tye February 25th election but lost to tye presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu who scored the highest number of valid votes cast, after meeting other conditions.
It was widely believed that if Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have contested the 2023 presidential election on tye same ticket as they did in 2019, they might have defeated Bola Tinubu while many other believed Atiku should have forgone the presidential ticket of the PDP and hand it over to any politician in the South.
Majority of the supporters of Atiku Abubakar see Mr. Peter Obi's defection and campaign ideas as the major reason PDP lost to Bola Tinubu, who many citizens described as a political strategists and master of them all.
The Yenagoa meeting between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi shown that they may likely come together in the future election as Mr. Peter Obi was seen doing everything possible to find his way to the place where Atiku was sitting. Also, Mr. Peter Obi left his seat to accompany Atiku to his vehicle where he attempted to exchange conversation with Atiku, on a one-on-one stand.
Other personalities across party lines graved the funeral ceremony of the late father of Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri, among them were the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Some PDP governors, former National Chairman of PDP, Iyorchia Ayu among other.
