Banks and other Financial institutions in Nigeria will close earlier than usual, tomorrow Friday, December 29th, 2023. This is [possibly] to forestall unnecessary loss and allow their staff to travel for the festive period.
Notifications sent by some banks to their customers suggest that physical banking activities will be accessible between 8 am and 1 pm or 3 pm depending on the bank and the branch. However, the banks have notified the customers that its activities will be shut before 4 pm which is against the norm of the banking ethics and schedules in Nigeria.
Also, the banks have encouraged their customers to make use of all the alternative channels to close the gap and complete their transactions.
Alternative channels for banking in Nigeria include Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), Point of Sales (PoS), mobile banking, and Internet banking, among others.
GTBank and First Bank are among the commercial banks and other financial institutions that have sent the notification of early closure by tomorrow Friday, December 29th, 2023.
Some of the sent messages read:
“Kindly be informed that our branches nationwide will close to customers at 1 pm on Friday, 29 December 2023. Please be assured that you can still bank with us through our alternative channels,” First Bank said.
“Our branches nationwide will close to customers early on Friday, December 29, 2023. Kindly note the early closure time below: upcoming branches will close at 2 pm and Lagos branches at 3 pm.
“We encourage you to take advantage of our secure, convenient, and always-on alternative channels for your banking needs, GTBank stated.
