Folorunso Alakija Nigerian born business tycoon and philanthropist, Folorunso Alakija has dissociated herself from a Facebook page that is suspicious to be fraudulent.
The Facebook page was named after Folorunso Alakija with all the posts on the page mimicking the words of Alakija. However, it was recently discovered that the page was asking the public to make financial donations to the course of Alakija's 70rg birthday, which is still underway.
In her body to alert the public and prevent the public from being scammed by the criminal behind the fraudulent Facebook Page, Alakija released a statement to debunk the Facebook page and encouraged the public to be vigilant about the impersonators. Alakija's statement reads in parts:
"It has come to my attention that there is a fake page on Facebook claiming to be me, Folorunso Alakija, and asking for money to celebrate my 70th birthday.
"Please be aware that this is a scam and I am not associated with this page in any way.
"I have also never called for donations to be made for initiatives I support through any social media platform or channel.
"Although I have an active presence on social media, my posts are made through my verified social media handles.
"Messages from platforms that have used my image and name should be reported as fake accounts as soon as you realise they do not have the verified tick.
"I implore you to disregard these messages as the senders are impersonating me. Please beware of such impersonations and schemes that dubiously extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
