Godswill Akpabio One of the Special Assistants to Senate President Godswill Akpabio who also doubled as the Youth Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ikot Ekpene (Akwa Ibom North) Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State, Ubokobong Ime Udoworen has been severely attacked by hoodlums who were allegedly sponsored by party leaders in the senatorial district where the Senate President represents.
Udoworen was said to have been atta led by hoodlums sponsored by the party leader in Akwa Ibom State to stop him from reporting an allegedly diverted Christmas/New Year Gifts sent to the youth wing of APC in the Senatorial District by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio which was said to have been pocketed by some leaders of the party in the state.
Family sources claimed that Udoworen was mercilessly attacked in the presence of some APC leaders in the state with no attempt to rescue him from the hoodlums because he had challenged the leaders of the party, on Facebook, to provide the gifts sent to the youth wing of the party.
The news of Udoworen's attack was contained in a petition signed by his family which was sent to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The Christmas/New Year Gifts were said to have included bags of rice and cash which were allegedly shared across the 10 Local Government Areas making the Senatorial District.
Udoworen's father, Obong Ime Udooworen, a retired police chief and former Chairman of Ukanafun LGA stated that his son was beaten mercilessly dragged into a car, and taken to an unknown destination on January 19, 2024. He, therefore, demanded for his son, dead or alive.
He said, "I demand to see my son dead or alive so I can bury him."
Surv. Akanimo Udom, who represented the family at a Press Conference stated, "The attack was targeted at stopping him (Ubokobong) from reporting the matter to Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio at the APC gathering in Ikot Ekpene. The misguided youths succeeded in preventing the Senate President from getting feedback on the distribution of goods meant for the Senatorial District.”
“It was no coincidence that Emmanuel Amama, the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Youths Matters, and other APC leaders were at the spot where Ubokobong was attacked. It’s worrisome that a youth leader of a party controlling the Federal Government was attacked publicly, and the party leadership has remained silent,” Udom added.
The attack was confirmed by the Akwa Ibom State APC Publicity Secretary Barr. Oto Abasi Udo who said Udoworen was “mercilessly beaten but could not ascertain Udoworen’s whereabouts or the state of his remains in the nine days following the incident.
