LAUTECH Oyo State-owned University, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, has maintained its lead and position as the best state-owned university in Nigeria.
This is the second time LAUTECH has been declared the best state-owned university in Nigeria since 2023 and was ascertained in the latest publication by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, in January 2024.
In the same publication, Covenant University and the University of Ibadan are ranked the top two universities in the country.
Before the political power-play that rocked the university during the administration of former Governor Alao Akala of Oyo State, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, has been dominant in the performance ranking of Nigerian university with its sire banker on the spot one of the state universities and top three in the committee of all universities in Nigeria.
The glory was restored when Governor Seyi Makinde and former Osun State Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola decided to resolve the political power-play which was a result of the joint ownership nature of the institution.
Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde resolved to transfer the joint ownership of the university to sole ownership, in the favour of the Oyo State government, with the agreement of the payment of N8 billion to Osun State Government as the value of its stake in the institution.
