Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke may be going through hard times as two of the major political blocs that cast votes for him in the 2022 governorship election are set to dump the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC).
APC leadership in the state has set up a committee to receive Omooba Dọtun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, hundreds of PDP leaders, and thousands of members of the ruling People's Democratic Party in Osun State to its fold.
This is contained in a statement released by the Osun State APC party
Chairman, Alhaji Taju Lawal Sooko through the party's Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, today, Wednesday, April 24th, 2024.
According to the statement, a season and consummate APC chieftain, Alhaji Mayegun Debo Badru is the chairman of the 12-member defection committee while Hon Bello Atanda, the State Organizing Secretary of the party, will serve as the secretary of the committee.
Other members of the defection committee are Hon. Oluomo Sunday Akere; Chief Delani Ajanaku; and Hon Femi Kujembola.; Lord Monyeh; and Hon. Richard Tinubu.
Others are Mr Damola Abdulsalam; Alhaja Fauziat Olaniyan; Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde; Hon. Rasheed Adeniji; Hon Sakirat Adeoye and Barr. Olubisi Oladosu.
Lawal stated that the committee has the latitude to fashion out the modality for the hitch-free defection exercise at a convenient date but not later than next week.
Omooba Babayemi was a Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) governorship aspirant during the last election in the state while Dr Ogunbiyi was also the Accord Party's governorship candidate in the state during the last election.
Arguably, Dọtun Babayemi directed thousands of his followers to cast their votes for the PDP during the 2022 governorship election aiming to regain the governorship ticket at the Supreme Court before he lost the litigation to the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
