A 25-year-old undergraduate student, Bala Abubakar is set to embark on a ‘thank you’ trek in honor of Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed popularly known as Buffalo Soldier whose tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University, has come to an end.
Mr Abubakar who made this known on Monday night said he will trek from Keffi to Laminga, the hometown of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the State.
The exercise, he said was in appreciation of the enviable heights the state-owned citadel of learning attained under the stewardship of Professor Mohammed.
Professor Mohammed, born on the 5th of March 1963 was the 5th Vice Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University. He was first appointed in an acting capacity in 2018 and then substantive in 2019.
Under his stewardship, the University recorded tremendous achievements. Notable among these are: full accreditation of all the academic programs by the National Universities Commission, the Establishment of the Institute of Molecular Diagnostic and Infectious Disease in collaboration with the Freiburg Universitat in Germany and the World Health Organisation and the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering at the Gudi campus and the School of Medical Science.
He has also promoted international linkage with Universities and Organizations abroad. The University presently has working agreements/linkages with some institutions and organizations in and outside the country. Some of these institutions are Freiburg University, Germany, Dundee University, Scotland, Morgan State University, Baltimore in the States, University of Agriculture, Krakow, Poland, University of Economics, Katowice, Poland, Polonia University, Czestochowa, Poland, Islamic University, Uganda, etc. These agreements have led to an exchange of staff and students between these Universities and the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nigeria.
