Marriage. A simple word. A straightforward definition. But a complex living. A complicated experience.
I have seen so many marriages go bad. I have heard of many marriages that end in death of a partner. I have seen women suffer, cry, struggle and wobble in marriages. Some marriages have brought severe health challenges…hypertension, migraine, emotional breakdown etc just because of stress and pain. Bitterness. Distraught. Confusion. Loneliness. Unhappiness. Love lost. These are all common experiences in a large number of marriages. You see a very happy couple on the wedding day. Six months after wedding, they have destroyed each other. They have separated or considering divorced.
You see people who do everything possible to get married…fasting and praying, church service work and dedication, prophetic declaration…everything possible is done just to get married…and when God eventually answers the prayer, within weeks, the marriage collapses and ends.
(Pls I know there are sweet marriages too but not in the high proportion of the ones described above)
Here are the questions. ..
IS MARRIAGE COMPULSORY? MUST ONE GET MARRIED? WHY ARE PEOPLE SO EAGER(OR DESPERATE) TO GET MARRIED WITH ALL THESE COMPLICATIONS? IS IT A SIN IF ONE DOESN’T MARRY? IS IT NOT POSSIBLE TO BE HAPPILY UNMARRIED? DOES THE BIBLE COMPEL US THAT MARRIAGE IS A MUST?
